Remember, Remember, the Fifth of November, the Gunpowder, Ghost Hunt and Plot.

To many, the 5th November is the night that Guy Fawkes was captured for attempting to blow up the Houses of Parliament. But this 5th November, Brookes Paranormal will be attempting to contact the dead at The Saracen's Head in Southwell, Nottinghamshire. Are you brave enough to join us for a rare, one-off Exclusive Ghost Hunt here?

The present building is believed to date back as early as the 1400s, with an older building dating even further back. It was at this former coaching inn, then known as 'The King's Head', that King Charles I spent his last night and final hours of freedom, before he surrendered to the Scots in 1646, who handed him over to the Parliamentarians and eventually had him executed. Cardinal Thomas Wolsey also stayed here for three weeks on his journey down to London, as he was on charges for treason after failing to get King Henry VIII's marriage to Catherine of Aragon annulled. Thomas later died from illness in Leicestershire before he could reach London. Other notable visitors include Lord Byron, the ambassador to French King Louis XIII, Jean de Montreuil, Charles Darwin, Charles Dickens, D.H. Lawrence and even The Beatles.

Lots of paranormal activity occurs at The Saracen's Head, such as disembodied voices and a violent poltergeist. The ghost of Charles I is believed to haunt his bedroom, as he spent his last few hours of freedom sleeping there, before his capture. A violent poltergeist frightens guests who sleepover in the King Charles Suite, by slamming doors and pulling off bed sheets. It's believed that this poltergeist is Charles' spirit, still angered by the betrayal of the Scots. The ghost of a Cavalier has been seen in the downstairs bar and in the Bramley Room, with the sounds of horses trotting outside. In the reception and seating area, a ghostly Monk has been witnessed walking with his head bowed in prayer state, before disappearing through the wall. The spirit believed to be of Thomas Wolsey, is said to haunt the first floor, opening and closing doors, with the sound of his footsteps pacing heard clearly. Other paranormal activity such as disembodied voices, loud knocks and light anomalies are often heard and witnessed in the bedrooms. The apparition of an 18th Century gentleman has been seen downstairs wearing a powdered wig, and the spirit of a Miss Clements has also been seen, believed to still roam the area after being killed by a horse and cart in 1857.
