The Robin Hood Experience
Nottingham, Nottinghamshire

OVERVIEW

The tale of Robin Hood is something that has been spoken and written about for many centuries, but still to this day he remains a mystery. Originally built as a Georgian house for the wealthy families of Nottingham, The Robin Hood Experience is the only visitor attraction dedicated to the Robin Hood tale by day, but becomes a sinister museum at night.

HISTORY

The building can be dated back to at least the late 1790s according to local maps. It was originally a Georgian house for the wealthy families of Nottingham, who could afford to live in the one of the poshest parts of the city, known as 'The Park'. A courtyard was also at the rear of the property, where horses were kept.

Prior to the house, the land it's situated on can go back to Saxon times, when the residents of 'Snotingaham' lived in cave dwellings that were interlinked throughout the city. When the Normans came over from France, they built a castle on top of a high standing piece of land (now called Castle Rock) and established their presence there. The Robin Hood Experience is located in what used to be the Norman Half of the city, where many knights, noblemen and Kings once walked.

Over the past 60 years, The Robin Hood Experience has been various shops, a solicitors, and in 2016 it became The Robin Hood Experience attraction, the only attraction in Nottingham dedicated to the legendary outlaw, Robin Hood.

GHOSTS & HAUNTINGS

Lots of strange paranormal phenomena is reported inside this 18th Century building, but some of it is related to the land. A tall, dark shadow man called 'John' is seen, felt and heard in the Sheriff's Court, and on past investigations we have actually seen him move things. We believe he's connected to the Shire Hall, but likes to visit The Robin Hood Experience because of this room.

Monks have also been sensed here in visitation, as further up the road used to be the old Lenton Priory, which is why the road is called Friar Lane. One monk 'Thomas' likes to communicate with guests, and bless them with a good life.

Spirit children are also reported to haunt the building, heard running up and down the tall staircase.

Other activity includes disembodied voices, eerie taps and bangs and groans.
