Your night of ghost hunting with Brookes Paranormal is guaranteed to be a fun, safe and spooky one. Experience this historic location with exclusive access after dark, as you explore the eerie rooms and areas in search for the ghostly spirits that haunt here.

 

Here at Strelley Hall, you will get to investigate rooms and areas such as the Castle Room, the Georgian Panelled Room, the Medieval Cellars and Dungeon, the Morning Room, the Drawing Room and the Grand Staircase.

 

Our team are friendly, professional, approachable and knowledgeable with paranormal investigating, and we will guide and support you to make sure you get the most out of your investigation. Whether you're a paranormal novice or an experienced investigator, you'll be well-looked after and treated like family. This is an honest ghost hunting experience, so there won't be any fakery or trickery during the night. We believe that if activity happens, it happens for real.

 

On your ghost hunt, you will be split into smaller groups led by your team investigators to give you the best, personal experience possible. You will also get hands on with various pieces of ghost hunting equipment, such as EMF Meters, REM Pods, Spirit Boxes and Detectors, and participate in interesting paranormal experiments such as Victorian Table Tipping, Ouija Boards and the Estes Method.

 

You will also have a couple of breaks throughout the night, where we provide you with unlimited refreshments and snacks to re-energise ready for the next vigil.

Strelley Hall was first built in circa 1200 by the de Strelley family, however it was originally meant to be built as a castle, but for certain reasons these plans for a castle never blossomed. Pevsner says there was a medieval tower that once stood near the south corner of modern-day Strelley Hall, and this area is now where the Castle Room, the Castle bedroom above it and the small half-window room above that are located. Below this area is the medieval cellar, and right at the end of this cellar is the Dungeon. The Dungeon was used to imprison poachers up until the 20th Century, and some believe that witchcraft and black magic took place down there. The building was extended/rebuilt around 1350, the same time the adjacent All Saints' Church was built.

 

​During Tudor times, most of the original Strelley Hall collapsed and didn't get repaired for a long time. It's because of this that little is known of the Hall's history during this time. During an archaeological dig in 2006/7, it was discovered from the layers of waste, that a major fire had likely broken out at the end of the medieval period. There have been many families who have owned and lived at Strelley Hall, including the famous big families of the Strelleys and the Edges. One night in 1678, the owner of Strelley Hall Nicholas Strelley, gambled the estate away in a game of poker, to another gentleman called Ralph Edge who was a lawyer. A family tree is kept near the Castle Room where this exchange of ownership took place, showing the generations of de Strelleys across the centuries, and the family tree of the Edge family from 1678 to the present day.

 

The current building has lots of period features in each of its rooms including, The Panelled Room and The Morning Room, which both date back to the Georgian time period. The last member of the Edge family, Emily Mary Edge, passed away in 1978. She was the last member of the Edge family to reside there, and was given ownership of Strelley Hall, providing she did not marry.

There are many ghostly happenings that have been reported here, such as disembodied voices, footsteps walking the stairs, and ghastly apparitions throughout the Hall.

 

In the Castle Room, the use of poker cards triggers poltergeist activity and a negative energy around the room, believed to be the spirit of Nicholas Strelley who lost the house in a game of cards to Ralph Edge.

 

In the Medieval Cellars and Dungeon, disembodied voices echo throughout the tunnels, while whispers and the sounds of stones being thrown occur in the Dungeon. A tall shadow figure known as 'The Watchman' wanders the dark tunnels, carrying a lantern and turns angry to anyone who goes down there. He's believed to be a guard from the 17th Century at a time when poaching was common on the estate.

 

In the Morning Room, the ghost of Sir Sampson de Strelley has been picked up by many guests and on our ITC apps. Back in May 2023, one of our guests captured the shadow figure of a knight holding a weapon in this very room. Could it have been the ghost of Sampson captured from a moment in time?

 

In the Georgian Panelled Room, knocks and bangs are heard, and the presence of a family man has been felt as he welcomes guests into his Hall. A black dog has also been sensed in this room.

 

Emily Mary Edge's spirit has also been reported here. It's believed she returns back to Strelley Hall in visitation because of her love for the building, and for the wonderful, cherished memories she had there until her death.

 

On the staircase, the energy of a young woman is often sensed falling over the bannister, as well as the presence of children running around the upper floor landing.
